THROUGH our vocation, WITH our vocation and IN our vocation

The canonization of St Louis and St Zélie today (the parents of St Thérèse of Lisieux) reminds us that we are ALL called to be saints

and we can get there…together, as parents!

We are reminded that part of our vocation in marriage is to help get our spouses to Heaven and St Louis and St Zélie lead the way in this, being the FIRST COUPLE to be CANONIZED TOGETHER!

Cross Stitch Saints: St Therese!

My friend Nancy at Do Small Things with Love has created 36 Catholic Saint Cross Stitch patterns and has invited a troop of crafty kids to make them…including my 9 year old Bridget!

In advance of our road trip to #worldmeetingoffamilies, I printed off  the St Thérèse Cross Stitch pattern from Nancy’s site and made my own travel kit for Bridget to get started on, in the van.

Feast of St Padre Pio!

A year ago, I was in ROME on the Feast Day of St Padre Pio!

In addition to all the extraordinary things I saw and experienced on my pilgrimage, I did something I’ve never done before while travelling! I extended my trip for 3 extra days…and changed my return plane ticket on the fly!  Those three extra days enabled me to join Mike and Sue and Katherine of St Gemma’s Catholic Pilgrimages (www.takeapilgrimage.com) and take an extra pilgrimage to San Rotundo to see St Padre Pio!

Feast Day Fun: Triumph of the Cross

When Jesus’ Body was removed, the Cross was hidden so that followers would not find it. About 300 years later the True Cross was found! Constantine the Great had a vision of the Cross which led him to victory. In response, Constantine had the image of the Cross placed on the shields of his soldiers. Although stolen in 614 by the King of Persia, the Cross was restored in its proper place in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in 629.

Happy Birthday Mother Mary!

There are a lot of ways to celebrate Mother Mary’s birth; the most obvious is probably a birthday cake! In A Treasure Chest of Traditions for Catholic Families we recommend an All-White Dinner reminding us that Mary was born without sin! I collected a bunch of pins on Pinterest, searching Birth of Mary, birthday cakes and white food… At Equipping Catholic Families, we have created a number of dolls and figures for Mother Mary. Check out: Egg Carton Mary and Mary TY Doll and our Wooden Painted Saint: Mother Mary! Check out our Wooden Painted Saint Tutorial An Alphabet of Mary is a sweet book with little poems, explanations and illustrations of the titles and qualities of Mother Mary. Feast Day Fun: St Maximilian

Welcome to Feast Day Fun: St Maximilian!

St Maximilian was the Founder of the Militia of Mary Immaculate, spreading devotion and consecration to the Mother of God. Together with the Franciscans, St Maximilian published writings about our Blessed Mother. He was arrested by the Nazis and volunteered to take the place of a family man, when prisoners were selected to be killed and he comforted his fellow prisoners as they were dying.

Feast Day Fun: St Clare of Assisi

Welcome to Feast Day Fun: St Clare of Assisi!

St Clare was born in Assisi and consecrated herself to Jesus at an early age. She met St Francis and was inspired by him and started the order of nuns called the Poor Clares. She defended the convent from soldiers by holding up the monstrance and causing them to flee! When she became too ill to attend Mass, she miraculously saw Mass in her room. She is the patron saint of sore eyes and television!
