Live Liturgically this February!

Equipping Catholic Families for February Saints Days!

This is our monthly summary of crafts and family traditions related to the Monthly Devotion, Key Feast Days, and the appropriate Season of the Liturgical Calendar. As our kids get older, our activities and commitment to Catholic crafts have changed and adjusted (at least for our last TEEN and young adult kids)! While we haven’t exactly been adding a lot of Catholic crafts around here, we do enjoy pulling out the crafts and programs we’ve developed over the years, sometimes sharing them with younger families in our parish!

The Monthly Devotion for February is
the Holy Family

This month, the official Devotion focuses on the Holy Family. What an awesome example of family life, St Joseph, Mother Mary, and Jesus offer us!

Advent isn’t just for kids!

With Advent just around the corner, we know that things are going to ramp up with Christmas shopping, Christmas parties, Christmas music in every store and Christmas decor all around.

There will be Christmas concerts and wishlists…and it’s hard not to get caught up in the rush of it all.

But we Catholics have ADVENT!

Now, it’s not difficult to get caught up in ADVENT either…at least the Advent traditions, programs and practices. There are Advent Wreaths and Advent Calendars, Straw for the Crib, Mary on the Mantle, the Three Kings journeying to the Manger.

But it can feel like the opposite of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love!

That’s why I was so happy to find these prayerful, Advent Journey Guides within this year’s Advent Catholic Mom Bundle…and these are the ones that stood out to me, and I printed them right away!

1. Refresh your prayer life with “Advent in 5 Minutes a Day – A Marian Battle Guide to Praying More” from Come Holy Spirit Rosaries

I printed this 2-up on letter size paper to make a nice 20-page booklet.
It has brief reflections, weekly prayers, daily verses and prompts for reflection.

2. Start your health journey with “Await With Grace: An Advent Wellness Journey for Busy Catholic Moms” by Fiat Wellness

Once again, I printed this 2-up on letter-size paper and cerlox-bound it for a 60-page booklet. It guides us through reflective prompts, scripture and reflections and includes a weekly wellness focus, questions to reflect on, action steps and short prayers

3. Wait in joyful hope with “Stations of the Crib Meditation Booklet” by Karen Oblinger

I was able to print this file double-sided and it is formatted so that once folded, the pages are in order in a nice 16-page booklet. It is accompanied by beautiful artwork depicting the 11 Stations of the Crib, and I printed these single-sided on cover stock.

I think the combination of these 3 Prayer Journal/Devotionals will be just what I need, along with a little notebook to reflect, pray and prayer-journal, for just 5-10 minutes a day throughout the full season of Advent.

If you’d like to join me with these print-and-pray resources for HOPE, PEACE, JOY and LOVE this Advent, you can pick these resources up along with 30 others!
My fellow Catholic Creators and I have put a lot of love and effort into these resources and this $700 collection is available for just $25 until midnight on Friday.

These are on my TO DO list to print, once I’m feeling hopeful and refreshed with my printed resources above. =)

There are so many ways to make an Advent Calendar (including this one we made years ago) and we found 35 [Awesome} DIY Advent Calendars here.

Fill up your Advent Calendar with faith-filled toys, treats and prayers:

    The Jesse Tree

The Jesse Tree is a wonderful faith-filled activity with Biblical symbols and figures and readings for each day of Advent. Jesus’ Lineage unfolds each day, leading up to His Birth on December 25th. You can make a nicely crafted banner like our The Family Handprint Jesse Tree and bring it out for Advent and Lent each year!

If you don’t want to just print yourself our BRAND NEW, SUPER EASY Jesse Tree Advent Calendar

Here are some of my other favorite Jesse Tree kits and tips:

    The Advent Wreath

It can be tricky getting those 3 purple and 1 white candles at the last minute, so we often pick them up throughout the year when we see them…or we’ve been known to tie purple and pink ribbons around white candles, in a pinch.

We’ve also used Dollar Store Votive candles and dressed them up in purple and pink!

One year, we made this Mailbox Blessings Advent Wreath and wrote little notes to each other throughout Advent, placing them in these adorable little mailboxes.

    Advent Prayers

Advent is an excellent opportunity to ramp up our family prayers…morning, before or after meals, around the Advent Wreath, in the car (bustling around to different events) or at bedtime!

Here are some of our prayerful craft kit printables to get you started:

    New Family Traditions

This time of year there is a lot of talk about different activities and family traditions to help focus Advent within the family. Don’t try them all at once! Choose one that’s right for you and get your kids involved to keep it going throughout Advent. If good deeds and sacrifices are part of your Advent tradition…consider Nesting…for Sock Baby Jesus.

This year we hosted a Sock Baby Jesus Workshop! Every kid made their own Sock Baby Jesus and we even made a couple more to give to a few other families in our Parish!
